The government has published draft legislation to introduce new paternity leave rights.

Written by: | |

The regulations state that, as of 6th April 2024, employees will be able to:

Take their two-week paternity leave entitlement as two separate one-week blocks, instead of taking just one week in total or two consecutive weeks).

Take paternity leave at any time in the 52 weeks after birth, instead of within the 56 days following the birth.

Give 28 days’ notice of their intention to take paternity leave, instead of having to inform their employer 15 weeks before the expected week of childbirth.

These regulations will apply in case where the expected week of childbirth takes place on or after 6th April. Great news for dads-to-be!
